Entry Formalities

Citizens of the EU, most other European countries, US, Canada, Australia, New Zeland and Japan can enter Albania without a visa. Other travellers need to get a visa from an Albanian embassy or consulate abroad before travelling to Albania. Before you set off, confirm your requirements at the nearest Albanian embassy or consulate. Check all border requirements at www.mfa.gov.al.


Climate

Tirana has Mediterranean climate that is particularly mild, with usually dry, hot summers lingering around 31°C (89°F) and temperate winters. The snowless winters are cool and rainy, lows of 5°C (41°F).


Currency

The LEK is the currency of Albania (plural: LEKË).                           

The sign is L and the code ISO 4217 is ALL.

Money exchange is about:

1 EUR = 139.74 ALL

1 USD = 96.59 ALL


Electricity

Electrical supply in Albania is 230V/50Hz and sockets are compatible with two-pole Europlugs used in all continental European countries.


Food & Cuisine

The cuisine of Albania is uniquely influenced by Turkish, Greek, and Italian cuisines.

The main meal of the Albanians is lunch, which usually consists of gjellë, the main dish of slowly cooked meat, and a salad of fresh vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, and olives. The salad is dressed with olive oil, vinegar, and salt.

Seafood specialties are also common in the coastal areas or cities by lakes such as Durrës, Vlorë, Shkodër, Lezhe and Sarandë.


Seсurity

Tirana is considered to be a secure city, but we suggest you to keep an eye to your personal belongings and refuse doubtful or illegal services.


Important Regulations

Smoking is banned in all closed public spaces in Albania. It is forbidden to smoke in the rooms, the bathrooms and in all the public spaces in the hostel and in the venues.

Clients are required to keep the tax receipt even handwriting receipt when leaving a shop or a restaurant and can be fined for non-compliance. 
Please remember to ask for a tax receipt when paying.
